A Numerical Solution for Modelling Mooring Dynamics, Including Bending and Shearing Effects, Using a Geometrically Exact Beam Model

During the operation of moored, floating devices in renewable energy sector, tight coupling between mooring system and floater motion results snap load conditions. Before events occur, line is typically slack. Here, mechanism propagation changes from axial to bending dominant, correct modelling rotational deformation lines becomes important. In this paper, a new numerical solution for dynamics that includes shearing effects proposed purpose. The approach based on geometrically exact beam model quaternion representations deformations. Further, coupled two-phase wave tank simulate offshore wind platform waves. A good agreement reference solutions was found. influence stiffness structure studied subsequently. We found increased amplitudes heave surge motion, whereas frequencies were less altered.
